Hello All,

Over the past couple of weeks I have been playing with getting my ScanJet
IIp (Hewlett Packard) to work with my SGI machine running Irix v6.2. Now,
as far as I can tell, I have gotten the source code of SANE v1.0.1 to
compile fine (using gcc and gmake instead of the Irix compiler). So I do
not feel this is a compilation problem.

Instead, it is a communication problem. I have determined the device name
for my scanner -- I am 90% positive I have the correct device name for my
scanner. When I use any other device name scanimage reports "invalid
argument," but when I use the device name of my scanner, instead I
recieve the error "I/O Error." I have edited my hp.conf file as well as my
saned.conf, dll.conf, inetd.conf, and services files. The error always
remains the same saying that there is an I/O error with my scanner. Oh
yes, I forgot, I verified the scanner was on my system with the
find_scanner tool - it is found. But when I run scanimage it is not found.
I have tried to use "scanimage hp" and "scanimage -d /dev/myscannerdevice"
and both die with the same "I/O Error." I have made sure that my dll.conf
file has hp devices enabled.

Does anyone have any experience with making the HP Scanjet IIp work on any
machine?

Thanks in advance...
