> > Gimp has this nice layers model which can be used for
> > generic image data. Whereas the Alpha layer has a
> > specific meaning which is distinct from dust removal
> > operations.
> Please don't keep confusing layers with channels. They're different.
> As Oliver said, what I wanted is an auxillary _channel_ -- not least
> because all the dust-removal tech will probably work in a way which
> makes sense done that way. Andreas Rick seems sure that it can be done
> "on the fly", but I'm not so keen especially when he talks about 80Mb
> of memory -- I doubt my 486 scanner machine will be adequate :(
>
> It's actually very easy to make this change in XSane, and I'll try to
> get on the case if Oliver doesn't beat me to it. There's an associated
> change to be made in the Gimp plug-in too.
>
> First though, I need to get a working setup for the LS-30 w/Autofocus
Hi Nick,

if you like to do the changes on xsane and send me a patch.
I will take a look at it and if it looks ok to me I will include it,
but if I think it does not make sense I keep my right not to
include it.

Bye
