> > You *have* to specify a valid resolution (i.e. >= 60dpi) explicitly.
> > The firmware of the SE scanners is somewhat buggy, so < 60 doesn't work
> > at all. And the default in scanimage is just 18 dpi :-)
>
> That's right!!! Thanks man, that's the solution, BUT....
> Now the problem is that the scanning is EXTRA VERY SUPER ULTRA slow.
> Even as root with ``nice -19'' and option ``--speed Fastest'' and
> ``--backtrack'' set at both options (yes/no) the scanning is EXTRA VERY SUPER
> ULTRA slow (in contrast with the M$ procedure).

--speed and --backtrack has no meaning for the SE. Get rid of this damn
crippled SCSI-card shipped with the scanner. I've got an Adaptec 1520 and
486-machine, a full page scan at 300dpi takes just 3 min. And kill anything
not absolutely necessary before scanning.

A kernel buffer size > 127 kByte won't help to much, as the scanner itself
has only 128 kByte and the request size must be limited to 64 kByte
(buffer management not well implemented in firmware).
