> >>From looking at the debugging output of saned and xscanimage, I believe
> >this has to do with the fact that currently my implementation
> >of the sane_read function does not like it when it is called with a
> >max_len which is less than 1 line of data. I am working on changing
>
> The microtek(1) backend had the same problem not too long ago.

Well, within the past hour, I was able to get sane_read() in the artec
backend working correctly. I don't have it working using pipes like other
backends use (and which I would prefer), but I have added a new sane_read()
function which acts as a buffer between my original sane_read() and the calling
program. I have emailed Andre about it and am waiting to get verification
from him that the changes work for him also before I put the fix up on my
webpage.

I have tested the modifications directly accessing the artec backend via
xscanimage, accessing via saned in debug mode, and accessing saned being
started by inetd.
