OK, I think we're this -> <- close to a first "official" release where
we could make things available more widely. I added in Tristan's
latest graphical frontend. It will get compiled only if the gtk
toolkit is available. At present, it gets compiled as a (somewhat
useless) standalone program---i.e., it does not get compiled as a GIMP
plug in. I wasn't sure what the right thing to do is here. Oh, I
also renamed the program from sanescan to xscan---I don't think that
name is taken yet, so why not? But if you don't like it, just give a
holler.

The main new feature is auto configuration. You should be able to get
something working simply by doing:

./configure
make
make install

How is that for a change? ;-)

Tristan, do you have an idea of how long it will take to get the
preview working? It looks like you made some real nice progress with
the graphical frontend, so it may be worth waiting for that before
announcing things more widely.

Andy, I was hoping to integrate the two linedistance correction codes
tonight, but am too burnt out to think straight, so I figured it's
safer to leave that for the next release. Definitively something we
should do before making the first "public" release though.

Oh, and this is a _discussion_ list, not a monologue list, so feel
free to send your comments/thoughts/flames/hacks or whatnot to
sane-devel@azstarnet.com.

Enjoy,
