Ah. I just remembered something. I have tried to connect the
scanner and a zip drive to one NCR810 card on another machine.
Under Windows 98 this yielded results very much like my current
images. Maybe this is a SCSI [cabling] problem? It worked in
another machine though.

I've read somewhere (in SANE docs?) that this Mustek should be
terminated (by me). But my active terminator makes the line
phenomena a lot worse. What is it with this scanner? Doesn't it
follow SCSI specs, or has it auto-termination?

Ok. If anyone else is interested, find it on:

Well, it does seem to be a SCSI problem, or am I wrong. Maybe it's
not working now because this particular machine doesn't have
enough power (VA) to drive the SCSI bus or the Mustek auto-
termination? Or something like that? I'm guessing here.

There's another NCR810 (Asus SC200) card in there (to connect
afore mentioned ZIP drive). I'll try that one (again) but it didn't work
before. If that doesn't make a difference, I'll look inside the scanner,
maybe I can remove the termination or something else is wrong. If I
break it, it needed repair anyway! :-)
