You write:
> I was wondering if somebody was working on a Win32 port of SANE. If
> nobody is doing it, I can perhaps take it up. Or is it a SANE policy not to
> support Windows or such ?
> While I saw SANE only a few days ago, I have been working on TWAIN (and
> its problems) for quite some time now. I have Mustek (PP and SCSI), HP and
> Fujitsu scanners in my office apart from a few odd hand-held scanners. We
> end up writing drivers, for these scanners, on DOS (!) as some of our
> clients need DOS support and, expectedly, nobody provides it nowadays.

Even though I'm a Linux user myself, I would welcome a Win32 SANE version
(especially the NET middleware), as this would allow my wife to access my
scanner over ethernet from her laptop.

I don't believe there is any restriction with the SANE code which would
prevent one from porting it to Windows. In fact, this has been discussed
several times here, but there have not been the right combinations of skill,
desire, and experience with SANE, TWAIN, and Windows to get the job done.
I think this would be a very useful addition to SANE. It sounds like you
have the skill and experience to do this -- good luck. Let us know any
results that you have (I would be happy to be a beta tester).

Cheers, Andreas
