** I am using SANE for OS/2 with a Microtek E3.
** Using the standard command from the readme, which is,
** scanimage -d microtek -l 0 -t 0 -x 120 -y 180 > out.pnm,
** I can get what I need from the scanner. However, for the life of
**me, I
** cannot figure out how to adjust the brightness and contrast on
**the
** command line. (or any of the other options, like line art, black
**and
** white, resolution, etc.

**Follow David's suggestion with "scanimage -d microtek -h".... I'd
**post the
** output here for you, but I still haven't gotten SANE set-up again
**after a
** recent hard-drive disaster.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that.

I have tried all the help and looked through everything I could find
that came with the sane package, but I am unable to figure out how to
make the adjustments. No matter what I do, I get told that -b, or
-brightness, or any combo of --- and commands, are invalid arguments.

If I can overstay my welcome here, it appears that I have to scan the
image first, and then run scanimage on that image to adjust it? That
is what I have managed to figure out, but still can't get past that
invalid argument thing.

**A note though: I've never gotten the exposure/contrast/brightness
**controls
** to work completely correctly on my E6 --- the firmware either
**doesn't follow
** the published spec, or it's just broken. So, if you get some funny
**images,
** don't be surprised. (On the other hand, if they work just fine,
***please*
** tell me!)

I would love to be able to rub it in :), but so far, you have nothing
to fear from me <g>

Thanks for the words,
