<P>Tried several scanners from the shop : Acer S2W 3300, HP 5300 Scanjet

but wasn't able to get them going despite installing many patches and

other stuff. Spent at least 3 days al together.

<P>Then I bought an Epson 610 and it worked immediately, although with
|
|
<BR>
|
|
some little quirks in Color scanning: the last few scan lines are
|
|
<BR>
|
|
always gone.
|
|
<BR>
|
|
However, that doesn't affect the quality: I only have scan a few
|
|
<BR>
|
|
millimeters extra and postprocess the output with xv or imagick to get
|
|
<BR>
|
|
it right.
|
|
<BR>
|
|
<P>Also bought an Epson 1240 yesterday and that took me 10 minutes. I only
|
|
<BR>
|
|
had to add the vendor id to the scanner.h and recompile the scanner
|
|
<BR>
|
|
module in 2.2.18. (Just one line). This one works flawlessly.
|
|
<BR>
|
|
<P>I'd say that Epson is far the best choice for Linux.
|
