Dear all,

I am new to this list and hope I'm asking my question in the right
forum. I have installed the sane software on two linux boxes, one box
(box1) has a HP SJIICX scanner connected to it, the other box (box2) is
supposed to access
the same scanner via the net.

Doing a 'xscanimage net:box1:hp' works just fine, but merely calling
'xscanimage' only gives me pnm:0 and pnm:1 to choose from.

As I want xscanimage to work as plug-in for gimp, I'd like to have the
net-accessible HP scanner as the default device. I have edited the
/etc/sane.d/net.conf in different ways, but no success so far. I can't
find it in the documentation either. (remark: my location of the 'sane.d'
directory is the one preconfigured in the S.u.S.E 5.3 distribution)

BTW: the doc seems to be unclear about if the service on port 6566 is to
be called 'sane' or 'saned'. I guess as long as each machine has it
consistently configured both are ok, but what is recommended?

Any advice welcome,
Michael
