Replying to myself:

> I tried sane-0.72 with the following system:
>
> Linux 2.0.33 (Pentium166), gtk+ 0.99.8, gimp 0.99.22, mustek 600 II N
> parallel port scanner.

It is reported as:

[mustek] attach: firmware revision 1.01
[mustek] attach: found Mustek scanner model MFC-06000CZ (flatbedscanner), 1-pass

> Some comments:

> 3)
> After using xscanimage the light istn't shut off.

This happens with access granted to /dev/port. A setuid root
xscanimage turns off the light correctly.

> 6)
> If the scanning process is aborted by killing xscanimage, the scanner
> won't react any more. A newly started xscanimage waits forever. I have
> to turn off and on the scanner manually.

Perhaps mustek.c should try to abort the scanner after a timeout?

Some more to follow:

9)
If the xscanimage preview window is closed xscanimage is terminated.

10)
The selection box in the preview window ist not updated automaticly.
After acquiring a new preview or moving the sliders there is no
reaction until I force a window redraw by moving another window onto
the preview window.

11)
The geometry sliders in xscanimage can be moved to "illogical"
positions. For example, the upper left corner is 5/5, the lower right
one is 1/1. If I try to scan with these positions my scanner will leave
the maximum scan region ("ratatatata").

12)
Using the gimp with xscanimage plug-in, on gimp startup xscanimage
tries to talk to the scanner. The scanner does its self-test for about
20 seconds every time. This isn't nice, if you only want to draw a
picture and don't use the scanner this time. Perhaps the shortcuts in
the xtens menu in gimp could be created *after* the first use of
xscanimage?

Ciao, Henning
