Okay, did it, been there, read that, did some other stuff, but sane won't
compile completely (I am missing the xscanimage) on my system. Somehow
configure doesn't find some funktion in libgtk called
'gtk_gamma_curve_new'. Here is the compiler output I get when I manually
set this function (in configure.cache) to yes:

gtkglue.o: In function `curve_new':
/root/download/sane-0.68/frontend/gtkglue.c:692: undefined reference to
`gtk_gamma_curve_new'
/root/download/sane-0.68/frontend/gtkglue.c:693: undefined reference to
`gtk_gamma_curve_get_type'
gtkglue.o: In function `gsg_sync':
/root/download/sane-0.68/frontend/gtkglue.c:1297: undefined reference to
`gtk_gamma_curve_get_type'

the Gimp (0.99.16), gtk (0.99.0) are installed (gimp had some problems
with gtk also when compiling, but I somehow solved them), so there
shouldn't be any problems building xscanimage, should there?

I'd appreciate any help on this problem, as I want to get away from
Microsoft as soon as possible, but as long as scanning pictures is such a
hassle (scanimage doesn't really do it for me - xscanimage probably will)
under linux, I have to stay with that.
