One additional piece of information, when I try to run the scanimage
command as root, it gets to the attach step and then locks up my machine.
I can't break out of it with a <ctrl><alt><del>, I have to powercycle.
> Hi, Laura.
>
> It sounds like a problem with the permissions of /dev/scanner.
> Try (as root):
>
> chmod 777 /dev/scanner /dev/sg*
>
> Then try scanimage again (not as root).
>
> If it still fails, send me the output of:
>
> ls -l /dev/scanner /dev/sg*
>
> and
>
> id
