[Thelounge](https://thelounge.github.io/) (a fork of shoutIRC) is a web IRC client that you host on your own server.

## Supported Architectures
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2022-05-03 04:23:52 +00:00
We utilise the docker manifest for multi-platform awareness. More information is available from docker [here](https://github.com/docker/distribution/blob/master/docs/spec/manifest-v2-2.md#manifest-list) and our announcement [here](https://blog.linuxserver.io/2019/02/21/the-lsio-pipeline-project/).

Simply pulling `lscr.io/linuxserver/thelounge:latest` should retrieve the correct image for your arch, but you can also pull specific arch images via tags.
2019-02-12 14:43:09 +00:00
The architectures supported by this image are:

## Application Setup
* When the application first runs, it will populate its /config
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* Stop the container
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* Now from the host, edit `/config/config.js`, wherever you've mapped it
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* In most cases you want the value `public: false` to allow named users only
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* Setting the two prefetch values to true improves usability, but uses more storage
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* Once you have the configuration you want, save it and start the container again
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* For each user, run the command
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* `docker exec -it thelounge s6-setuidgid abc thelounge add <user>`
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* You will be prompted to enter a password that will not be echoed.
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* Saving logs to disk is the default, this consumes more space but allows scrollback.
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* To log in to the application, browse to `http://<hostip>:9000`
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
* You should now be prompted for a username and password on the webinterface.
2022-04-11 14:06:28 +00:00
* Once logged in, you can add an IRC network. Some defaults are preset for Freenode

## Usage
2021-07-06 04:08:31 +00:00
To help you get started creating a container from this image you can either use docker-compose or the docker cli.

## Parameters
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2020-07-03 15:51:51 +00:00
Docker images are configured using parameters passed at runtime (such as those above). These parameters are separated by a colon and indicate `<external>:<internal>` respectively. For example, `-p 8080:80` would expose port `80` from inside the container to be accessible from the host's IP on port `8080` outside the container.
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00

#### Miscellaneous Options
| Parameter | Function |
| :-----: | --- |
2020-07-03 15:51:51 +00:00
## Environment variables from files (Docker secrets)
2020-05-29 15:52:14 +00:00
You can set any environment variable from a file by using a special prepend `FILE__`.
As an example:
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
```bash
2020-05-29 15:52:14 +00:00
-e FILE__PASSWORD=/run/secrets/mysecretpassword
```
Will set the environment variable `PASSWORD` based on the contents of the `/run/secrets/mysecretpassword` file.
## Umask for running applications
2020-07-03 15:51:51 +00:00
For all of our images we provide the ability to override the default umask settings for services started within the containers using the optional `-e UMASK=022` setting.
Keep in mind umask is not chmod it subtracts from permissions based on it's value it does not add. Please read up [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umask) before asking for support.
2019-02-12 14:43:09 +00:00
## User / Group Identifiers
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2020-07-03 15:51:51 +00:00
When using volumes (`-v` flags), permissions issues can arise between the host OS and the container, we avoid this issue by allowing you to specify the user `PUID` and group `PGID`.
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2019-02-12 14:43:09 +00:00
Ensure any volume directories on the host are owned by the same user you specify and any permissions issues will vanish like magic.
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2019-03-08 16:51:40 +00:00
In this instance `PUID=1000` and `PGID=1000`, to find yours use `id user` as below:
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2021-04-20 04:05:03 +00:00
```bash
2019-02-12 14:43:09 +00:00
$ id username
2019-03-08 16:51:40 +00:00
uid=1000(dockeruser) gid=1000(dockergroup) groups=1000(dockergroup)
2019-02-12 14:43:09 +00:00
```
2019-02-08 16:52:12 +00:00
2020-04-10 15:52:40 +00:00
